Project Description

Pine Mountain Settlement School

Pine Mountain Settlement School was originally founded in 1913 as a boarding school and as a settlement school serving the community through economic, health, and cultural initiatives. In 1972, the school shifted its focus towards environmental education, an integral part of PMSS’s programming and outreach to this day. The school maintains a 3 acre garden where food is produced for the campus dining hall. Their Grow Appalachia program has also served more than 200 families, with the quality of educational components and workshop growing in success.
