Grow Appalachia at St. Vincent Mission is ending another productive and challenging year. We have hired a new Garden Program Coordinator. Jeannette Mullins joined our team in September 2021. She has lived in the Floyd Co. area and done gardening with here family as far back as she can remember. Jeannette is looking forward to meeting and working with new garden participants for next year, as well as working with kids to create a community garden, with the goal of teaching them the value of organic gardening while they are young. St. Vincent has also hired a part time Garden Assistant, Vicky Bailey, who was a former intern. She lives in Magoffin County and has also done garden work since she was young. She lives on a farm with many animals and loves working outside with her hands and meeting new people. As the season nears an end, some of our participants are planning fall crops or a wheat cover crop. Jeannette and Vicky are looking forward to jumping in feet first and running with next year’s Grow Appalachia Program. They are getting prepared for the season challenges and look forward to seeing all the great things the growers will achieve.
