Hi this is Justin at the Red Bird Mission Grow Appalachia. At the end of last month we had our annual harvest picnic. I ask our members and their families to bring a dish prepared from something they grew in their gardens.

They brought a variety of dishes like squash stuffing, cornbread (from home ground corn), potato salad’s, green beans, corn, strawberry pie, walnut cake, and more stuff I cant remember, but all was grown at their homes.

I thoroughly enjoy the harvest picnic it is a great time for everyone to sit around exchange stories on how there gardening year went, exchange different types of heirloom seeds, or just to sit around and tell big tales.
