We had a wonderful time at the Ohio Pawpaw Festival in mid-September where Community Food Initiatives’ Ridge & Hollow Seed Alliance presented workshops on the importance of seed saving. Ohio University Professor Paul Patton spoke on folk seed varieties and the importance on identifying open pollinated and culturally relevant seeds in the Allegheny Plateau Region. We then hosted  Wood and Stone co-owner Erik Peterson to lead a dynamic, informative and captivating session on the importance of seed heritage and DIY seed cleaning! Participants had the opportunity to get their hands dirty and their seeds clean while learning how to scale up their own seed production. This event helped Ridge & Hollow by connecting us to more seed savers in the region, growing the network as we look toward 2017.
