Hi this is Justin at the Red Bird Mission Grow Appalachia. Even though the gardens are looking awful weedy and poor now after all the rain we’ve been having our members are still gathering plenty of beautiful vegetables.

I am pleased to see that our members have gained and put to use the knowledge and techniques of preserving. After all the hard work of gardening through the summer it will be nice on a cold winter day for them to enjoy fresh canned garden food.

Fall gardening time is here. We have been planting our seed beds and planting our fall crop transplants. Even though this summer the gardening has took a toll on everyone I’m pretty sure our members are excited to continue gardening well up into winter. Especially after our “Season Extension” meeting we held last month. Our members are ready to put the new techniques they learned to use. Happy gardening!
