Happy New Year from Valerie at Cowan Creek Community Center!
Cowan Creek Community Center just finished their fourth year as a Grow Appalachia partner site. So much appreciation and gratitude to John Paul DeJoria, the Peace, Love and Happiness Foundation, David Cooke and the Grow Appalachia team at Berea College. We are very pleased with the success of the year and looking forward to a Sweet 2016.
The Inaugural Gourd Awards happened in December. The “Growing On Us Recognition Dinner” happened in December to recognize those who are supporting local foods in Letcher County. The dinner was a partnership with Letcher County Public Schools, funded by a Mini Farm to School grant. LCCHS Jr. Chef team, community, businesses and organizational partners were recognized and gifted a hand painted gourd by local artists for their contributions. Tables were decorated with fresh produce and guests had a farmers market treat bag to take home with fresh cabbage, greens, turnups, sweet potatoes and pumpkins.
