So what do you do when your beans and tomatoes start growing?

On June 2nd we went to the Dewitt community garden to try out a couple different ways to trellis vegetables. We had a work day at the garden and set up cane poles for the beans to run up. We were able to reuse the cane poles from last year. It takes a lot of work, but it really helps to get the beans of the ground and thriving.

We also worked on setting up the “Florida weave” with the tomatoes. We did this last year and it worked really well. Hopefully we will have a big crop of tomatoes this year. We planted a lot of different varieties including some heirloom tomatoes.

The next step is to put up some netting to try with the other rows of beans in the smaller garden at Dewitt. Before long we’ll be starting to pick!
