The rain didn’t stop Wayne Riley, Laurel County African American Heritage Center, from coming to Beattyville and conducting a training on the proper use of organic fertilizer and pesticides. He brought the fertilizer that I had ordered for my gardeners and that was certainly a help; this buying regionally is such a blessing.

The meeting was well attended and everyone was glad to know that there was something on the market for killing bugs that didn’t make you glow in the dark. We discussed all kinds of things from spots on grape leaves to how to keep deer from dining in your garden.

Several of us want to journey to London to see Wayne’s setup and we want him to demonstrate the correct procedure for pruning tomatoes. His visit to Beattyville was greatly appreciated.
