Among the many workshops we offer (including GA workshops), is a little gem this spring. Josh Bills (ASPI board member and Energy Efficient Enterprises Program Director at MACED) will be demonstrating the solar water pump operation he designed and built for the Richmond Street Community Garden in Mt. Vernon and with participant involvement, assembling a solar water pump for the ASPI Small Town Demonstration Site’s cistern. We use the cistern water to replenish an aquaponics/heat storage tank in the greenhouse and irrigate our gardens. Additionally, Josh will give a tour of the ASPI solar water heater.

These are great additions to homesteads, farm operations, and community gardens. Josh will also be able to discuss Kentucky’s On Farm Energy Program, which is now available for ‘green’ energy applications. http://agpolicy.ky.gov/energy/Pages/on-farm_energy.aspx

We thought folks in the Grow Appalachia family might be interested in this opportunity, so if you are a participant, manager, organizer for one of our sister sites (that is all of ya’ll), it’s free!

Monday, May 4th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the ASPI Mt. Vernon Small Town Demonstration Site – 50 Lair Street, Mt. Vernon, KY 40456.

It would be great if you let us know you are coming – 606-256-0077 or naturecenter@a-spi.org, but if it rains that evening, and you can’t get into your garden like you planned – come on anyway.

Hope to see you there!
