Need to get out and enjoy some sunshine? For lack of a word the encompasses what we are doing, we’ll call it a party. Tomorrow, at the ASPI Rockcastle River Demonstration Site (5 miles south of Livingston, KY, then turn onto Lower River Road) from 9:00 – 2:00, come and enjoy some sustainable family fun.

The Mary E. Fristch Nature Center will be open for exploring. Check out our bird and insect collections, dress up like a bee, compare skulls and tracks! We’ll have the slackline set up up and other activities for children outdoors. Learn a few common wild edibles and make a native pollinator home for your garden. At 10:00 and 1:00 there will be a program on arthropods – and a scavenger hunt! Join us at 11:00 for a program on pollinators.

Admission and activities are free, and we’ll have local salads and breads, ready-to-eat or roast-your-own hot dogs and s’mores at very family-friendly prices. Complimentary hot drinks are available in the cordwood cabin.

At noon we’ll be saying “Congratulations and Good Growing” to our Grow Appalachia participants from 2014 – but they know our doors are always open for our community in search of seeds, garden assistance, library resources, – and our gardens, too.
