We have only had one light frost but we know that Jack Frost is coming our way sooner that we want to see him. I thought this picture was cute because it shows what happens to those old corn stalks once the corn has been used. The fall vegetable make a beautiful display but they also make some good eating. One of my participants is canning pumpkin because she and her husband love pumpkin soup and pumpkin pies. I love pies made from the squash or the pumpkin. Turnips and greens are prevalent in the gardens and sweet potatoes are especially good this year. Nothing is better for a Fall breakfast than hot biscuits and sorghum. Gosh, I am making myself hungry so I am going to sign off and find something to eat. By the way the Incredible Food Show at the Lexington Center was great!!
My dad woke us up reciting this poem every year on the morning first frost – and then because he liked it so much, usually on the first hard frost, too. I do the same with my kiddos! -tisha
