Well, it took us a while to get on board here with the rest of the Grow Appalachia family, so here is our first Blog Post:
This year we tilled up a big area at the Appalachian South Folklife Center. We have a massive teaching garden and two families gardening with us there. It took us forever to get a fence up, and we fed quite a lot of deer – even after we constructed a very scary scarecrow.
Our best crop at home base has been beets hands down, They are Detroit Dark Reds and I did not expect such a high yield.
It has been super dry, Rain seemingly falling anywhere but on our little plot but I think we are still going get some good harvesting in.
We have four families gardening at their own homes and one community garden that just joined the project. The “Turn Dark to Light” Princeton Community Project. We will help them with their vegetable gardening this fall!
