I have seen such beautiful gardens this year. Almost everyone has already started the canning process; pickles and sauerkraut are especially popular. This has been a great year for cucumbers in Lee County. The only issue that keeps popping up over and over is deer and crows. There are many interesting solutions to these pests but probably the most effective is going around the perimeter of your garden with old video tape. This works for us and of course, three dogs, who love to chase the deer from our garden.

Tammy's zucchiniThe picture shows some beautiful and prolific zucchini. For a quick side-dish, sauté two or three small zucchini with about a half cup of onion in two tablespoons of butter and the same of olive oil. Add a can of tomatoes or two fresh ones if you have them after the zucchini and onion are tender,  then add a cup of shredded cheddar cheese and pop into a 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted and the vegetables are bubbling, about 20 or 25 minutes.

Happy Independence Day!!!
