This week at the Grow Appalachia in Red Bird we had a group of missionettes, which are 4th and 5th grade missionary’s, from Henderson Kentucky. They came down and volunteered their time to help us with some work. We had two girls and three sponsors help us in the gardens. The rest of the group did other work in the community. They said their goal was” to give the girls experience serving the less fortunate and giving back to God”. The girls names are: Addyson and Lauren. The sponsors names are: Tina, Jennifer, and Kelly.

They helped us by weeding our raised beds. Then we used the weeds that they pulled out to make us a batch of green fertilizer. You put the weeds in buckets, fill them up with water, seal on the lids and let them set for 7 to 10 day to let the weeds ferment, then use the water to water your plants.

We also staked some tomato plants.

And they mulched around the tomato and strawberry plants with shredded paper.
