Soil provides ecosystem services critical for life: soil acts as a water filter and a growing medium; provides habitat for billions of organisms, contributing to biodiversity; and supplies most of the antibiotics used to fight diseases.Soil is the most important component of any landscape.  Healthy soil will make it easier for you to maintain beautiful plants or a green, full lawn.

Students participating in Wise County’s Grow Appalachia Project learned all about the different layers of soil and what you find in each by making edible soil cups. This is a fun and tasty way to teach any age group about the different soil layers.
