This is Justin Brock from the Red Bird Mission Grow Appalachia. This has been my first week of work. It’s been a learning experience.
We had a great training about year around garden maintenance this week thanks to Ms. Pat Biggerstaff. We all learned a lot, especially about the Adzuki bean. It is a good companion plant for cabbage, cucumber, eggplant, strawberry, carrots, peas, and radishes. You are supposed to plant the adzuki bean in stager rows, let it grow up two to four inches, then plant your crop down the center of the rough. The adzuki bean can be prepared deep fried, stir-fried, steamed, or fresh as part of a salad. Web sites to purchase the adzuki bean mvseeds.com, evergreenseeds.com.
Glad we got the rain this week. We have two out of three gardens with seeds. Going to plant more later this week. I am excited to start seeing the gardens green out.
