With fall approaching we finally have some time to address our goal of building a chicken tractor. Already, right off the bat we are planning on scaling these down for the next year. But you have to start somewhere right?

Our goal was longevity, we wanted something that was very stable and that would last. Something that would allow for growth beyond just a few chickens. This would provide for the family and hopefully would provide an income down the road with extra chickens. The plans stated that this would be a great home for 12 chickens.

Well, yesterday we gathered our supplies together at our local hardware store. I was thrilled that we found just about everything local verses having to travel to a big box store.

I have done several searches on the internet for free A-Frame plans. Never quite finding what I had seen at a friend’s house and the idea that I had in my head. So based on several pictures and some very rough dimensions we set out.

We began with a 6×8 base. This is something that we will be addressing next time around with the idea of being able to transport on a 5×8 trailer.

We got most of the sides cut and we are ready for putting the wire up to be wrapped around. More pictures to follow and another blog entry as we finish up our project.
