On Friday we took part in the annual Bell County, “Farm Day” an event sponsored through the University of Kentucky, Cooperative Extension Services.
I spent the day interacting with the other presenters, handing out flyers and other information about Henderson Settlement and Grow Appalachia.
The Henderson Settlement Green House brought Corn, Green Beans, Peppers and Plants to sell.
Henderson Settlement provided the cattle for the working dog demonstration .
Ms. Betty from the Bell County Extension service directs people to the different areas.
I enjoyed meeting the personnel from the Farm to School program. Lakin Daniels is the Coordinator for Spread the Health Appalachia in Bell County.
The Bell County Health Department, Spread the Health Appalachia is based on partnerships between health departments, schools, local business, and community organizations.
Ms. Ester demonstrates how to churn butter.
Over 700 people attended the event.
Farm Day sounds like a great idea. I don’t think we’ve done that here in Letcher County. We are ending our Farmer’s Market with an event and will try to incorporate some of these ideas into our day.
