Many of us are having a problem with slugs this year. I suppose it is because of the rainy, cool weather. We are setting traps using either apple juice or beer. Does anyone have a better solution? I think we might use the apple juice for the traps and drink the beer. Just Kidding!! I had such fun Sunday morning delivering baby chickens to Carolyn and seeing her beautiful farm. We also saw some beautiful potatoes at Judy and David’s last week. Gardens are looking pretty good but it is a job keeping the weeds out with this rain. We should have some good crops this year though.
Hey Brenda. I have been told that putting small boards in the garden where the slugs are will attract them. Then each morning pick up the board, pull the slimy little creatures off the board and drop them in a bucket of soapy water. My same source says melon rind halves do the same thing but since I am trying to buy local that wont work right now. Good luck.
Hardwood ashes sprinkled all around the plants helps a lot–but of course rain (especially heavy rain) washes the ashes and they need to be reapplied. Good for the soil. Save your wood ashes all winter in a dry place for this.
