Today was the first sunny day that we have had in almost a week. It was an opportunity I took to check in on our sites and see how the gardens were coming along before the weekend rain hit. I saw lots of broccoli, collard, potatoes, onions and lettuce coming up, however I also saw lots of fruit too. Often we concentrate on all the veggies we have growing and forget about the fruit. It made me happy to see all the kinds of fruit-growing along the side of our veggies. Several families have planted apple trees, peach trees, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries to name a few. It seemed like everywhere I looked today the fruit was bursting with blossoms. I can already taste the juicy strawberries coming out of the garden. Nothing can beat HOME GROWN & HEALTHY. This also represents our new name, it’s the same mission and vision just a new Grow Appalachia site name in place of the Cumberland Valley District Health Department.
