It was a beautiful March 16th day at Pine Mountain Settlement School. Several participants from our group took a drive over the mountain to their 3rd Annual Seed Swap. We couldn’t have asked for better weather! Bill Best and several others were there with their heirloom seeds gathered from the farms of Kentucky as well as other parts of Appalachia. I even bought two varieties of bean with roots (literally) from Clay County Kentucky where I live. There were heirloom beans, tomatoes, peppers and other varieties. There was also a table of free heirloom seed from places like the Baker Street Seed Bank, which harvests and saves thousands of varieties of seed from all across the world. Handouts on seed saving will be very helpful to our participants. It was a beautiful setting for an awesome event. Thanks to Kathleen Powers and Maggie Ashmore for their hard work in hosting this event. EVERYBODY GO NEXT YEAR! ~Karen Dial, RBM GA Coordinator
