One of the veterans in our Growing Warriors program wants to grow cut flowers for the market! In order to have flowers and plants ready for commercial sale, the family needs to be able to start plants in a protected environment in early spring. Growing Warriors is building the base and frame of the a high tunnel in early March.

Join us on March 13th, in conjunction with AgrAbility and the Agricultural Legacy Initiative, for an Ag Legacy Field Day! Learn to (and help) install the plastic on the high tunnel. Janet Meyers of Berea College Gardens will conduct a workshop on high tunnel production during this final stage of the project.

In addition, the Laurel County African American Heritage Center will host a fish fry with all of the proceeds benefiting the new Veterans’ Community Garden Projects in Berea! Rather than a fixed price, we are asking for cash donations for lunch.

The Field Day – to finish a high tunnel for a Growing Warriors veteran’s family, attend a workshop on high tunnel production, and enjoy a hearty fish fry – is March 13th from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at 10494 Battlefield Memorial Parkway, Berea, KY.
