Hey this is Justin at the Red Bird Mission Grow Appalachia. Things have been going good despite the rain and devastating winds that we have had this month. Our green house got wiped out again in one of the storms after rebuilding it for the third time. Even with all that the farmers have still been getting good looking vegetables.
The farmers market for me has been the highlight of the month. We’ve had a good number of farmers coming out to the market bringing beautiful produce to be sold. We’ve also had a good sized crowd buying that produce off our farmers.
The market started out kind of boring you could say, then Sharon Spencer, farmers market marketing specialist, did a training for us on how to prepare your garden for market.
It was a great training our farmers got more excited about presentation, appearance, signage, and different things to make there table more appealing.
The tables may not be professional, but it got people thinking and trying to make there produce look better for the customer. That shows me that they are trying harder to provide for them selves and there family.
The shed we have now for the farmers market is a place for families to come get fresh vegetables and fresh clean water. Glad to see people coming and using it.
