Let the preparations for next season commence!

We are looking at feedback from the Grow Appalachia team after our site visits and our initial 2027 grant application submission and pondering these quandaries.  Questions that we are exploring are expanding the size of backyard gardens to increase production numbers, and who our target group will be for next year.  There are, of course, pros and cons no matter what approach you take.  A concern is that having a larger garden plot may be overwhelming for the average beginner g

ardener, our main participant. An option would be to expand the existing backyard gardens of the more experienced 2026 participants and roll out smaller gardens to new families that want to be a part of the program. That would also be a consideration for who we target as 2027 applicants.

In the meantime, we are planning the last two workshops and winding the budget down. We have appreciated every moment of this year’s planting season and are starting to feel like pros. I know that our families feel the same way.

Its a pleasure to be able to provide a program that not only returns rural Kentucky to its roots, but emphasizes the educational benefits you can glean from the natural world.  The rewards are endless.

We can’t wait to hopefully share more stories in 2027!
