Here in the Clearfork Valley, gardening season is finally getting underway. After an especially dry hot spring then late freezes has now been filled with steady rains and muddy ground, our group is beginning to see their gardens take shape. While the weather has delayed some planting but has allowed the seeds to awaken that was distributed at our April meeting and kept many of us watching the skies and calendars closely, it has also reminded us how connected gardening is to the rhythms of nature and the changing seasons.

Over the past few months, our group has spent time sharing hopes and ideas for this year’s gardens – discussing what we want to grow, how we want our garden spaces to look, and what we hope to learn throughout the season. One of the most meaningful parts of this experience has been coming together to help our group leader separate seeds and plants in preparation for spring planting. While working side by side, we’ve had the chance to talk freely, exchange gardening knowledge, share stories, and get to know one another better. What began as simply preparing gardens for the growing season has also helped strengthen friendships and build a deeper sense of community here in the Clearfork Valley.
As the weather warms and seeds begin to slowly emerge, there’s a growing sense of excitement throughout the valley. Gardens are more than rows of vegetables – they are places where people gather, learn, share, and build community together.
This season promises to bring hard work, new lessons, and, hopefully, a good harvest. Most importantly, it reminds us that growing food also helps grow friendships and stronger communities here in the Clearfork Valley.
