Our Grow participants are excited that spring has at least started to pretend like it is here to stay but have had several days of frost still making its usual late appearance but we have been busy. Participants have helped sort seeds, onion sets, potatoes and kohl crops to begin what we hope will be a good growing season. Last year we had an excessive amount of rain that kept people from getting their crops in or even their gardens plowed this year looks like we have already moved into the beginnings of a drought season but we can help families address the issue with limited water but not excessive amounts which we will be focusing on next month.
Workshops have started with planning your garden/soil prep/tools that that make their garden more successful. We partnered with UT Extension Claiborne County agent who did a great job presenting to our participants considering as he tells his knowledge of gardening is limited and his knowledge is more on ruminants. Need to know how to process a chicken he’s the guy.
Here’s to a great year!
