As the days get longer and warmer, we begin to really FEEL the possibility of the new year.
I believe that this year will bring flowers, fresh organic veggies, and community.
I believe it because that is exactly what we are seeding and cultivating!!
As we launch our 14th year of Build it Up East Tennessee, our backyard gardener training program, we do so with immense gratitude and a sense of hopefulness. Folks are strained and their budgets are strained. The idea of being able to supply themselves and their families with fresh organic produce has brought excitement – and a sense of relief.
We hosted an Intro session this year for brand new gardeners and will never forget the audible gasp when I told them that last year’s cohort collectively grew 32,000 pounds of food in their backyards.
This year we are incorporating much more discussion time and opportunities for folks to network with other gardeners in their area, and those with more or less experience. The idea is to build a sustainable community of practice, teaching, learning and GROWING together and sharing the knowledge gained and the fruits of our labor with others.
