For nearly a decade, the LPH Community Gardens has primarily grown produce in 32-square-foot raised beds, and our home garden participants have requested these same beds over the years.

However, as we seek to increase the number of participants growing at home, we have realized that not everyone has the space to accomodate these standard-sized beds. That’s especially true in our dense, urban community, where most people reside in multi-family rental housing.

Last year, we experimented with 16-square-foot beds for two home gardeners with mobility challenges and limited space. This year, we are taking that flexibility a step further by supporting new home garden participants who are especially limited in space by constructing smaller raised beds, utilizing patio planters, and even growing in food-safe buckets.

We are excited to offer support for participants with home gardens of all sizes this growing season!
