Grow Appalachia here at St. Vincent area has gotten off to a rough start. We recently have had a big flood in the area that has affected many families. I was really glad to see our communities pulling together to help with each other during this time. This year we have had a good start with 44 families signing up for our program. Many of the families are working together to help each other get their lands cleaned up and ready for the garden season.
We have a volunteer Amber Ousley ,who is working with us in the garden program. She is 20 years old, Autistic and loves to do gardening and working with animals. She is now learning to try and grow some tomato plants for our other participants in a grow room upstairs and wants to start raising honey bees in the months to come.
We were able to help our participants with a wide variety of donated seeds from a church located in Pennsylvania. I also was able to get enough free seed potatoes for each of our participants to have 50lb worth for their gardens. Times are hard right now and we appreciate those who do good things to help our families to be able to grow healthy foods to put on their tables.
I’m so happy to hear about the seed & seed potato donation you all received!
