Laying the Groundwork
We know that gardening is about more than just plants—it’s about people, access, and sustainability. Over the winter months, we’ve been focused on laying the groundwork to ensure that the LPH Community Gardens program can continue to empower individual gardeners and strengthen our community food systems.

Here’s a bit of what we’ve been working on!
🌱 Engaging with our neighbors—Listening to better understand their specific needs, interests, and barriers to growing food.
🌱 Solidifying an accessible workshop curriculum—Examining how we can cover core topics so that all home garden participants (and interested community garden participants) can reasonably access materials and get connected to the support they need.
🌱 Identifying new growing spaces—Using creativity to recruit new home garden participants and explore other under-utilized public spaces in our community (look out for our next orchard planting).
🌱 Gathering resources—Ordering supplies early, soliciting additional funding, solidifying partnerships, starting seeds, and planning for volunteers.

What’s Next?
It’s been a productive winter, but we are excited to transition from the final steps in planning to some planting.

Next week, we’ll be getting a big delivery of dirt (one of our favorite events of the year) and kicking off the growing season with our first workshop! This month’s workshop will include an orientation for new home garden participants, seed starting demonstration, garden planning tidbits like which seeds can be direct sown now for spring crops, and we’ll pass out important early supplies like seeds, seed starting supplies, and onion starts.

We can’t wait to share updates from our first workshop—and to see what grows in the season ahead!
