We are in awe of our featured gardeners, Dora and Bob.  They are a retired couple in our Grow Appalachia program, who are accomplishing extraordinary things!

They just had their second NRCS high tunnel installed this year.  Both high tunnels are 30 ft x 90 ft.   In addition to their high tunnels, they also have a 1 1/2 acre garden.  Their bountiful harvest has been a blessing to their community, as they’ve shared and sold their produce.

They maximized their earning potential by utilizing the local farmer’s market, in addition to a roadside stand at the end of their driveway.  They also effectively utilized social media to promote their daily selections.

Bob, affectionally known as “Bob the builder,” has also created several innovative pieces of equipment to assist with planting and growing, which are very impressive!  It was an absolutely joy visiting them and seeing the remarkable things they accomplished.  As I was leaving, I noticed a pontoon boat in their driveway.  Assuming that their would be no way they would have time for boating, I asked “Do you ever get to take your boat out?”  Dora’s response was, “Oh yes, we are on the lake every week.”  That is when I decided that I want to be just like them when I grow up.  They have been a true inspiration to us all!
