Our neighbor Tameca is a dedicated home garden participant in the LPH Community Gardens, and she recently led a demonstration on preserving food, using ingredients readily available this time of year.

Drawing from her own garden harvest, she shared how to prepare and can applesauce and corn chowder—two dishes that can serve as sides or the foundation for meals throughout the coming year. “These days, you don’t want to waste anything,” she noted.

Beyond saving money for herself and her neighbors, the event allowed Tameca to pass on skills she learned from previous neighbors. “That’s what community is,” she said.
