The last of June and July have been the hottest part of this year, with very high temperatures and very little rain, but it’s still humid and uncomfortably sticky. The Gardeners are working early in the mornings and late in the evenings to avoid the heat during the midday.

Some gardeners are doing quite well. The last couple of weeks they have been giving me some good harvest reports and telling me how their vegetables are doing. Their gardens are growing and producing some nice vegetables. Beans are doing good, and potatoes, tomatoes, and several more things are in bloom.  Some have already been canning peas and a few other things.

A couple of gardeners are not doing as well. The lack of rain and high temperatures haven’t helped any, nor have the little critters eating everything before it can be harvested. One gardener swears the critters are watching their gardeners more closely for things to mature than they are, and are out earlier than them to do their harvest.

But despite high temperatures, lack of rain, and critters, our gardeners are still managing to get enough to eat now and enough to preserve to eat later.
