On June 20th we had a Native Plant workshop led by Jane Harrod at the Appalshop Pavillion. It was a beautiful evening but very hot. The heat affected the number of participants in attendance but the ones who braved the heat left with a lot more knowledge on native plants and some plants to take home and grow in their own gardens.

Jane Harrod was born on a working farm to a Mom and Aunts obsessed with native wildflowers. She says their most fun outings were to get lost in Eastern Ky and find wonderful habitat full of yellow ladyslippers, multiple species of ferns and goldenseal. She has 48 years experience in the wetland, riparian, prairie and woodland restoration business.

She brought native plants with her and went into great detail on each plant. After the workshop the participants got to pick out 6 plants each to take home.
