As our summer season winds down there is always a sense of sadness that the joy and peace found in the garden are slipping away with the shortening days…BUT NO MORE!!!  The beloved David Cooke made the trek to Leslie County to share with us how to move past the idea of season extension and instead consider production extension.  By implementing an array of practices –  from simple/low tech strategies like mulch and cold hardy crops to more complex outfits like high-tunnels – we got the full rundown of how to ensure we will not only be gardening but EATING from our gardens through most of the cold months.  Participants were given grow lights to compliment the small greenhouses they received at last month’s meeting.  Moreover, per their request, our group received vacuum sealers and bags to continue “putting back” for the winter months.  We are planning our next meeting which will be a potluck dinner to celebrate our season!
