We have been blessed with very successful gardens this year! So, we thought it only fitting to discuss seed saving and treatment. Seed treatment is a process that utilizes chemicals or heat to eliminate some fungal, bacterial, and viral pathogens. We had a great lesson on how to save seeds and a demonstration on hot water treatment of seeds. Our participants learned which seeds you can utilize this type of seed treatment with and how to treat a variety of seeds. They all require a different temperature or time in the water bath to be treated. Some seeds, like bean seeds, do not do well with hot water treatment. Our gardeners are now equipped with the knowledge of how to preserve their family varieties and how to maintain genetic diversity.
