We would’ve been hard-pressed to fit another event in the LPH Community Gardens during the month of June. The Community Matters team had something fun and educational going on almost every day!
We kicked off the month with a community-wide potluck in and around the Sassafras Garden, which is the largest of our community gardens. Then, we reconnected with our Home Gardeners and distributed sets of much-needed new garden tools to each of them. Just a few days later, volunteers from Deloitte joined us for their annual Impact Day. The group has been helping out in our community gardens for more than a decade!
Somewhere in the middle of all of that, our teen Garden Apprentices started working for the summer. They hit the ground running (and planting and watering and weeding). By the end of the month, they had also hosted a special Juneteenth plant-dying workshop using beets from the community garden
We wouldn’t trade any of the awesome things that happened in the LPH Community Gardens during the month of June for the world, but we definitely were happy to take a few days off over a long July 4th weekend!
I’m so happy to see that y’all hosted a workshop using beets as a natural dye!
