Our April meeting was focused on introducing and preparing our participants for the upcoming farmers market season! Extension provided Produce Best Practices Training and Kiristen provided Senior Farmer Market Nutrition Program/WIC training – these incentive programs are important for food security/access in our region. Along with Kentucky Double Dollars (KDD) provided through Community Farm Alliance (CFA), Senior and WIC programs provide individuals in food insecure homes funds to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. Moreover, farmers are supported!
Our participants were surprised with a generous donation of insect netting, and teamed up to divide the netting among everyone. Within a few minutes we had an assembly line of “unrollers”, holders, cutters, and distributors – truly a great team! My favorite part was how tables were used to ensure accurate length and a straight cutting edge! Once again, I am humbled by how much I learn from those involved!
