A few months ago, our home garden participants got a jumpstart on their growing season. But last Friday, the festivities continued as the broader community came together for a special kickoff to spring. Despite rain earlier in the day, the skies cleared just in time for the first “Garden Party” of the season, which brought together community garden participants and their families to celebrate the season’s start.

The event took place in the Sassafras Garden where one neighbor led youth in making plant pots out of recycled newspapers. Meanwhile, another neighbor fired up the grill and filled the garden with the smell of delicious food cooking.

Hosted in collaboration with home gardeners and other resident leaders, Garden Parties are a series of recurring events that offer community gardeners the opportunity to share resources and knowledge about how to grow and prepare food. With warmer weather on the horizon, there are plenty of upcoming activities like these planned in the LPH Community Gardens!
