Material Distribution Day!

Whew! What a busy first week of May! We started the week off with our biggest material distribution of the year. Due to some things being backordered and coming in late, we weren’t bale to do our normal mid April pick up and instead had to wait until May. This distribution included summer plants, seeds, potatoes, tools, fertilizer, t-posts, hortonova netting, zip ties, and tomato twine. First year gardeners got everything while second year gardeners got plants, seeds, potatoes, and fertilizer.

Material distributions are actually my favorite part of each program, aside from garden visits. It’s so fun to get to interact with all of our gardeners and it’s a great way for our gardeners to interact with each other. During Covid we did a lot of no contact deliveries where folks would just pop their trunks and then be on their way. This year, we’re getting to see people’s faces, carry conversations, and answer questions face-to-face. It makes such a big difference!

We had LOTS of volunteers to help us cut up plants this year. Several families came out with children of all ages. The small children played off on their own while the older kids helped divide plants and cut hortonova netting. We always strive to involve children of all ages, even if sometimes they’re more of a hindrance than help ;). All in all, it was a fun and very successful day.

Check back soon!
