It seems absolutely unreal that this my 5th year writing Linwood’s blog.  I am grateful to continue to be a part of Grow Appalachia and all of the education and positivity that comes with it.  But mostly I am SO excited to have things to write about besides snow and cold weather!  Hooray!  Linwood has tons of cool stuff happening for this year….we are going to be busy busy busy.
First, we have already had our first important sale of the year.  WVU Health Educators bought trays of micro greens to use for school education classes.  We see it as just another way to get local, organic produce into schools!

In other awesome news, the Pocahontas County Board of Education gave us approval to build a community garden similar to Linwood in Green Bank.  As if that weren’t progress enough, we also received approval from the Marlinton Town Council to do the same thing in the town of Marlinton.  That project will be in  conjunction with WVU Extension.  So, new for this year are 2 more big community gardens in the works!
We are also thrilled to announce that we have a new Garden Coordinator this year, Eryn Neyer.  Eryn is the local Foodshed Coordinator for the WV Food and Farm Coalition.  Look for a profile on her sometime this season, and please welcome her if you get the pleasure of meeting her!
Our introductory meetings and seed starting classes are shaping up as well, and participation looks high for this year.  That’s all the news for now, but stay tuned!
Peace,
Kelley
