The Knott County Farmers Market is opening early this year! At the request of the community, we will be opening in May to take advantage of pea and strawberry season.

The grand opening will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 21st at the Hindman Settlement School’s Outdoor Classroom. Country singer Pierceton Hobbs will be performing, and a local high school student will be selling supper to raise money for her study abroad trip.

Our regular hours will be May 21st – Mid-September on:

Tuesdays 5:00pm – 7:00pm at the Hindman Settlement School’s Lynn F. Young Outdoor Classroom (56 Education Lane Hindman, KY 41822)

Fridays 9:00am – 12:00pm at the Knott County Cooperative Extension Office (149 Parks Branch Hindman, KY 41822)

Farmer Training

Grow Appalachia is an integral part of the Knott County Farmers Market’s farmer training and recruitment. The latest Grow Appalachia gardening class was “Marketing Your Garden.” The local extension agent taught participants the do’s and don’t’s of selling produce at the market. This year, seventeen of our Grow Appalachia families are planning on selling their produce. We provide these families with the seeds, plants, training, and confidence to become market entrepreneurs.

Community Outreach and Affordability

The Knott County Farmers Market strives to provide affordable, healthy, fresh foods to the people of Knott County. We are expanding our efforts to bring fresh produce to underserved populations by accepting SNAP EBT (food stamps) and WIC and Senior’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program Vouchers. We are also teaming up with the Knott County Diabetes Coalition to launch Diabetes Dollars, a voucher program that provides fresh produce to people with chronic health problems.

Tuesdays on Troublesome

The first and third Tuesdays of the month, the market is hosting “Tuesdays on Troublesome,” free festivals featuring live music, supper, fresh-grown food, and artisan crafts, all with a local focus. Local charities will sell supper as a fundraiser for their important work. This year’s lineup is as follows:
