Bea Sias, Logan County

Step by Step

On August 10th, 2018, Grow Appalachia, Pride Organization and Word of Life Church, and twenty or more other schools threw a BACK TO SCHOOL BASH for the students and parents in Logan County. We had health services, Vision and other things to check for the adults.   They were also pre-enrolling Children for Head Start and Pre-K for Pride. Word of Life Church had the Jumpy Inflatables while their Mother’s enrolled them in school.

The children wore themselves out with all the activities that had been provided. They had a great evening playing even though the temperature was 90 degree and it was humid and stuffy. The facilities were donated by Word of Life Church. Grow Appalachia, Pride Organization and WV Extension Service provided healthy food and fresh vegetables. Bea Sias made approximately 70 skewers or more of different vegetables and Dana Wright the Extension office along with Buck West done the chore of cooking of these along with Corn on Cob. The Kabobs were marinated with olive oil and marinated for a few minutes. Our food was delicious and went over real good.

Grow Appalachia had signs to direct people to their table to register for a gift donated by Pride, which was a Food Sealer.  Also, Grow Appalachia, had several inquiries about Gardening. We will get in touch with them about February 2019. Pride Organization bought several hundred dollars of homegrown vegetables.  They allowed each family to get their own vegetables.   Some of the families received more than 1 bag depending on the size of the family.    I thought this was very kind and helpful for these people, Also, we sent to some elderly and shut-ins. Some other organizations gave out water and different items to everyone in attendance which was between 250 to 300 people. It was a lot of work to get it together, but, it was worth it. We are planning a Fall Festival in October with Home Grown Pumpkins in the theme, I am also attaching pictures of the event.
