June is the loveliest of months! The deep summer heat isn’t yet relentless, a rain shower seems always to be around the corner, and the birds sing just a little louder. All this loveliness sure has kept us hopping this month, but we captured plenty of photos along the way! So, we thought we’d share our June with you through this collection of lovely images.
We’ll start our visual journey of the month with this video featuring Jessica, our Farm Manager and Advocate, from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
- And with a rainbow of flower petals to celebrate LBGTQIA+ Pride.
- Our table flower partnerships with Crank & Boom Ice Cream Parlor and Windy Corner Market continued throughout the month.
- Meanwhile, we harvested lots of beautiful beets….
- ….and plentiful basil, mint, and greens that have made for some delicious field-to-table meals in the shelter this month! We’ve been having a salad bar for lunches a few times a week.
- Allison, a Family Advocate with focus on children’s services, gave our new box garden for kids some extra care and attention this month. No adults allowed! Well, except Allison.
- We celebrated our healing services on another farm later in the month.. The Danville Tai Chi Circle invited us out to the farm of Chris Kubale to share more about our mission and services in the community.
- Beautiful blooms from our farm decorated the tables at this wonderful gathering of friends in Danville.
- Jerry Houck and his team at The Caterer used basil, beets, butternut squash, garlic scape, and herbs from our farm to make wonderful food for guests to enjoy during the event.
- After everyone was full, they gathered in the shade of a tent to listen to a survivor share her story and learn more about ways to help the mission.
- Also this month, our Weekly Summer Flower CSA launched!
- So far, we have more than 80 members registered. Several local businesses are serving as pickup locations, including Third Street Stuff, Good Foods Co-op, Bak 4 More Studio, and the Plantory.
- And several employees at Lexmark joined this year, so we added their corporate headquarters as a special weekly csa delivery site.
- We also began a new retail partnership with Good Foods Co-op to sell our locally grown sunflowers at their store.
- Almost 50 volunteers to our shelter and farm for the United Way of the Bluegrass Day of Action!
- ….and we wrapped up the month selling our Handmade By Survivors products from our farm at the Smokin’ in the Bluegrass Eggfest hosted by our friends at Housewarmings in Lexington.
