–Deb Vensel, High Rocks AmeriCorps Member, and Karline Jensen, High Rocks Program Coordinator, Hillsboro, WV  We woke up to 5 inches of snow again Monday morning — April 9th!  We’ve had lows in the 20s this week.  But inside the high tunnel broccoli plants, onions, cabbages, carrots, beets and tomatoes are growing!  We’ve also planted cucumbers, potatoes and melons.

We held our third workshop on Garden Maintenance and demonstrated the Florida Weave and how to use ergonomic tools like the scuffle hoe and 3-tine cultivator — thumbs up so you can keep your back straight!  We discussed watering, cover crops, and pest control.

There was even someone from the local radio station recording our class!

We’ve distributed onion plants and seed potatoes along with growing instructions.  We’ve distributed tools and fencing and irrigation supplies.

Outside, spring is in full effect — ramps are growing from the seed we planted a few years ago!
