We had another packed house this week!  The class topics were Basic Gardening with Cathy Lackey and Beneficial Insects with UT Extension Agent Seth Whitehouse.

Seth brought some insects that we could look at and get a visual/hands on  of some of these beneficial insects.  Here is a PDF that he shared with us that is very helpful : https://secure.caes.uga.edu/…/files/pdf/C%201055_1.PDF

This week all new participants picked up their hand tools and cool season seeds:  mustard, collard, lettuce, kale, cabbage, peas, carrots, and turnips.  Along with these vegetable seed, participants were able to choose from many flower seeds that were donated to SCCC.

Participants went to McCreary Central High School and picked up their organic fertilizer and cool season plants: cabbage broccoli and cauliflower

Three participants won these wonderful door prizes.  One of them was a fresh salad bowl filled with romaine lettuce and spinach.  She can add radish, onions, leaf lettuce and kale: growing and eating fresh salad.

The weather has not allowed for any of us to get into our gardens yet.  We are all getting excited and just waiting on the sun to dry the ground so we can get started.
