— Emily Sullivan, High Rocks AmeriCorps Member, Hillsboro, WV

Hi, I’m new.

My name is Emily, I moved here from central Virginia to start a small farm bakery. Over the last 5 years I have been a barista, farmer, baker, and knitting teacher. I have not stayed anywhere for too long since leaving my home state of Iowa, in 2012. Up until last year I was not sure where I would settle, but I knew I wanted to farm and bake somewhere beautiful around wonderful people.

After visiting Hillsboro, WV regularly over the last year, I decided to move to the Mountain state. And that is when the great Liz Kammeyer invited me to apply as a part-time AmeriCorps member to help out with the High Rocks garden and Grow Appalachia program.

I am very much looking forward to using this opportunity to meet members of the community and share my love of food, gardening, and eating with the wonderful people of West Virginia and start to call this place home. Thanks for having me, I can’t wait to get started.
