This month has been a big month for Grow Breathitt County. On the 12th of the month, the UK Robinson Center hosted the “Pest Management in Home Gardens” Mountain Monday and all of this year’s Grow Breathitt County participants attended.

The presenters at the workshop were Blake Newton with the UK Department of Entomology, Dr. Ric Bessin with the UK Department of Entomology, and Dr. Emily Pfeufer of the UK Department of Plant Pathology. Topics covered during the workshop included natural enemies of garden pests, companion plantings to reduce the need for pesticides, insect control using organic and limited use conventional products, and organic and reduced input disease control. Participants had a great opportunity to learn tricks and techniques that they could use in their own gardens at home.

We have also had even more pictures posted by participants in our Facebook group of their gardens.
