It is a very exciting time in Alderson! The outlook for Grow Appalachia 2017 looks nothing short of wonderful! We have even began working on accumulating site-generated revenue due to some amazing participants selling their blackberry bushels at the Alderson Food Hub and it has been very successful!

For our first 2017 blog Alderson wanted to share a brief look at one of new farmers! And to help do that for you she has wrote a little but about herself and what she hopes to get out of GA this year!

“This will be my first year in Grow Appalachia and I am excited.  I moved here from Alabama and will have room to grow some special type of tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, and some Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and Pink Berries.  I have a small garden, but looking forward to making it larger as I had some good experiences last year in this community.  The Alderson Community Market and Edith’s Health Store carried my tomatoes and they were a big hit because of being so unusual and tasty.  I do not use any chemicals at all in the soil, only compost from organic fruits and veggies, along with some fish compost and hopefully this year I will be able to get some Turkey compost.  So exciting.  Looking forward to helping the community eat healthy and stay healthy.  “
