Liz Kammeyer, High Rocks AmeriCorps Member, Hillsboro, WV–

Hello to all!
My name is Liz Kammeyer, and I am one of the two new Grow Appalachia/Local Foods & Wellness AmeriCorps members at High Rocks for the 2016–2017 year! I have met or spoken with several of you in the High Rocks Grow Appalachia family but I wanted to formally introduce myself to everyone in this wonderful community.

I am coming to West Virginia from Boulder, Colorado where I spent the last three years getting my Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. My time in Boulder opened my eyes to the importance of building a community that holds locally-sourced and nutritious food as a top priority – but I also realized the need for a community that is truly genuine in its intentions in order for it to function at its highest potential. This realization led me to seek out an opportunity that would bring me closer to not only Nature and sustainable food practices but also to a tightknit community where I could put in long-lasting roots. So just three weeks after deciding to look into AmeriCorps, I quit my job, packed the car, and left my friends and family behind to chase after a dream of creating a healthier planet and healthier communities!

In the three short weeks I’ve spent here in Pocahontas County, I have been overwhelmed by the warmth that everyone has shown me. I have been welcomed so quickly into the High Rocks and AmeriCorps family and the feeling that this is exactly where I am supposed to be grows every day. So a big thank you to you all for creating such an incredible space for exploration, joy, and growth (both personal and garden-wise).

Can’t wait to see what this next year will bring us!
